Born in late 2007 through a mutual dissatisfaction of the guitardriven swill swamping the 21st Century Blues scene, Hokie Joint takes 5 pieces of youth and experience to create a groundbreaking, song-driven twist on the genre. In just over 3 years together through performing their own unique brand of dirty, roots based groove music, Hokie Joint have reminded the blues world via their dramatic and raw live shows, that the music they hold so dear is about more than just a guitarist’s dexterity!
Since releasing their debut album; ‘The Way It Goes…Sometimes’, in 2009 through Amsterdam based roots-rock label Coolbuzz, Hokie Joint have been taking the European club and festival circuits by storm. In just 3 short years together, Hokie Joint have built up a grand reputation, and received countless rave reviews all over Europe (see link below) for their dramatic live shows and unique, dirty and original take on Blues/Roots music. With prestigious UK and Dutch magazines, MOJO and REVOLVER; respectably describing Hokie Joint as a; “promising blueprint for the future” and as having an “approach that is both new and recognisable.”
Paddy Milner is not only recognised as one of the leading blues piano players in the world, but also as a songwriter whose influences are as numerous as the number of notes he is capable of playing. His new album, recorded in Paris and London, promises to continue building his reputation as one of the finest and most exciting players around and also develop an ever wider fanbase.
Having learnt his craft touring with visiting American blues artists, and the best of British since the age of 13, Milner burst onto the scene in 2000 at the age of 19 with his debut album, ‘21st Century Boogie’. The album rapidly garnered international accolades within the blues world and beyond, showcased his knowledge and respect for the blues tradition while introducing his originality. Through his contribution to a BBC Radio 2 session, Milner was nominated for a Sony Award.
